The Northern Colorado Big Sit! Results.

The NOCO Big Sit! held at my house in Loveland was a big success.
Below is my little fire I enjoyed all alone for a few hours until reinforcements arrived.Ann Donoghue on the right showed up around 7:30 or so and brought an enthusiastic, alert attitude and fun! My sister Lauren on the left, brought tasty bagels and good eyes & ears to the team! The cold finally drove us to our warm homes around 2:00. I went out
to the circle several more times throughout the afternoon and did add
Pine Siskin to the list. We beat our last years total of 27 by 12
species with a total of 39, one bird shy of our goal. Not bad
considering the weather! We missed some easy birds, American
Goldfinch, Red-tailed Hawk and Downy Woodpecker. Some nice surprises
were Mountain Chickadee, Greater Yellowlegs and a mixed flock of
grebes. Ann Donoghue, Kathleen Dowd, Lauren Burke and later Denise
Bretting and I were our team of the day.
Me, Lauren, Kathleen Dowd, Ann.We had a fire and coffee
going the whole time, Kathleen brought some tasty Wasail. Al made us
toasty bagels for breakfast, I made turkey and swiss grilled (um..
burnt) for lunch. Amazing what tastes good when you’re cold.
(and amazing how goofy you get when your brain freezes, Buff Birders)

Looks like a great day, and I’m glad to see we here in Minnesota aren’t the only ones with snow in mid-October! What are the birds thinking about this early snow, I wonder? “Man, I shoulda booked that earlier flight south!!” The only good thing about cold weather is it’s a great excuse to sit inside and read about birding, like my new mystery series The Bob White Birder Murders! (Shameless self-promotion, I know!)
