Wanna Go Birding?

Some of you may know that I’ve begun a series of Bird Walks here in Loveland – Birding The Big Thompson.

I’ve been blown away by the enthusiastic response. The first walk we had over 25 folks attend, the second walk topped 30 participants! These are free walks somewhere along the Big Thompson River which flows right through the town.

Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Bird Watcher’s Digest – I was able to give everyone a lovely magazine.
At first thought you might think no birds are around, but we find fun stuff like this Downy Woodpecker.
And for some this “White-crowned Sparrow” is misnamed. So we get to talk about why there is no white crown. Then we come upon a winter warbler – seriously why is this bird still in Colorado?
Yellow-rumped Warbler – Myrtle.
Finding Brown Creepers is one thing. Helping others find Brown Creepers is a total test of skill, wit, and sheer good luck sometimes! My next walk in Loveland will be on Saturday, January 22, 9:00 AM. We’ll be visiting Morey Wildlife Reserve – a City Of Loveland property that borders the Big Thompson River.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll find something unusual like this summer resident Bullock’s Oriole, in Colorado in DECEMBER!
