I’m heading out brigh– no, DARK and early tomorrow to head down to Boulder, Colorado to join Bill Schmoker and crew for their annual CBC .
We’re meeting at the Original Pancake House, then off we’ll go to see what’s out there. A winter storm is heading our way, so getting to Boulder tomorrow could be my biggest adventure. (I’ll be prepared; tire chains, snowshoes, shovel, food, water, warm clothes.) But you never know what birds out out there until you look.

“The 109th Christmas Bird Count: Citizen Science in Action“
Sunday, December 14, 2008 to Monday, January 5, 2009
From December 14, 2008 through January 5, 2009, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas will take part in an adventure that has become a family tradition among generations. Families and students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists will head out on an annual mission – often before dawn. For over one hundred years, the desire to both make a difference and to experience the beauty of nature has driven dedicated people to leave the comfort of a warm house in the middle of winter.”
